Frequently Asked Questions

Accounts & Tanks

If you forgot your username, you can find it via the forgot username page.

If you forgot your password, you can reset it via the forgot password page.

If you are not receiving the automated emails to recover your username or reset your password, you will have to contact us for manual assistance.

If someone has stolen your account, contact us immediately to explain the situation. We recommend using a unique username and password to maximize your account security, and not sharing your login information with anyone else.

There is no guarantee that deleted tanks can be restored. Contact us with the tank name and we will attempt to help you.

You can change your tank name for a $25 USD fee. Payment can be made via PayPal, Credit Card, or Bitcoin. Charging for tank changes is the main way that TankPit raises funds to support the game.

You can change your tank color for a $25 USD fee. This moves your current tank state (ie. fuel, equipment, rank, game statistics) from one color to another, and vice versa. Payment can be made via PayPal, Credit Card, or Bitcoin. Charging for tank changes is the main way that TankPit raises funds to support the game.

We do not allow any removal or transferring of awards or stats from one tank to another. We also do not sell awards, so please don't ask!

We will move a tank to a different account for a $10 USD fee. This is a manual process, so you need to send us $10 USD and then contact us with the tank, old account username, and new account username information. Your tank will be moved as soon as we are able to process the request.

We use swear filters to prevent players from creating inappropriate tank names. Unfortunately, swear filters sometimes have false positives and block legitimate tank names. If this is happening to you, please contact us with the tank name you'd like and we will create it for you.

Swear filters cannot catch everything. Please report inappropriate tank names and we will investigate and delete them if deemed not to meet our community standards.

In the past, TankPit had a limit to the number of tanks per account which resulted in some players creating multiple accounts. We currently allow merging accounts, but only if they both belonged to you and were created several years ago. This is an automated process which you can do via account settings.

We do not support merging of accounts outside of those parameters. In particular, we do not support merging accounts that belong or originally belonged to other players.

How To Play

Begin by clicking "How To Play" on the game lobby to view the guide. For more advanced questions, try asking other players on the bulletin board!

In the past, players were allowed to quit the game at any time and this created a problem with players quitting right before they were about to be deactivated. This is not fair to other players, and so we implemented a timer to prevent players from quitting in the heat of battle. Players now have to leave the battle and cool down for a few seconds before they are allowed to quit.

Since players may not be allowed to quit during battle, as is described in the previous answer, if you close the game or disconnect at such a time, it is possible that your tank will be stuck inside the game. At this point, your tank will become "uncontrollable" for a minute. This means that other players cannot attack it, and this gives you some time to reconnect to the game and automatically resume playing. If you do not reconnect after some time, your armor shields will be enabled and other players will be allowed to resume attacking your tank until it is either deactivated, allowed to quit the game, or you rejoin and continue playing.

If you connect to the game lobby while your tank is stuck inside the game, it will automatically load the game so that you can continue playing where you left off as quickly as possible.

This is a feature we added to prevent players from breaking into an opponent's base by switching to their troop color and moving obstacles inside their base to open up unmined spots. Now, the game automatically plants a mine under an obstacle you move if it detects that you might be inside a base.

To obtain most ranks, you have to deactivate a player of a certain rank or higher and obtain the required promotion points. See "How To Play" on the game lobby for detailed promotion requirements.

If you deactivated a player of the required rank but it didn't count for a promotion, then our anti-cheat system may have blocked it because you and the other player had related accounts or IP addresses. To avoid triggering this anti-cheat system, we recommend never sharing your account with another player. This system is currently only enabled in tournaments.

This is not a bug. We thought it would be interesting to allow the in game bots (eg. orange-1) to be promoted up to the rank of sergeant. If the bots reach the rank of sergeant, they become significantly smarter and harder to deactivate. Good luck!

We have added numerous options to customize the game in the "Game Settings" pages on the game lobby. These include options to customize the game size, sounds, graphics (sprites), hotkeys, and map colors.

Tournaments

If your account is new, you have to play a few hours in the World game to develop some basic familiarity with the game before you are allowed to play in tournaments. This is to prevent abuse (players registering new accounts to cheat in tournaments).

If your account is not new, then your account may have been banned from joining tournaments for giving free kills, which is considered cheating. Contact us for more details.

Tanks that are deactivated once in a tournament may be automatically eliminated from the game if they have no chance of winning or have a history of being deactivated too many times. All tanks will be eliminated from tournaments after being deactivated a second time. This is to prevent abuse (players continually ranking and giving free kills).

Please contact us with a General Inquiry to report suspicious activity. We take all reports seriously and will review our tournament recordings and ban players if necessary. Players who have coordinated to cheat in tournaments have had awards removed and tanks deleted in the past.

Game Problems

If your browser is unable to connect to the game, here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

  • Try a different browser. We recommend Chrome, but recent versions of all the major browsers should be supported.
  • Force refresh the play page to make sure your browser is using the latest version of the game.
  • Ensure that a firewall or anti-virus isn't blocking your connection. TankPit uses WebSockets.
  • Locate the Javascript Console in your browser and check for any error messages.
  • Try again later. The game might be down for maintenance in which case nobody can connect.

For additional assistance or help with specific errors please contact us.

Please report any bugs you find to us so that we can fix them. Players who report bugs may qualify for the Defender of Truth award, so be sure to tell us first!

When reporting a bug, include a clear description of the problem. If you know how to reproduce the problem, include that in your bug report. You can include screenshots, video clips, or anything else necessary to explain the problem.

Cheating is not tolerated in TankPit and we strive to uphold the integrity of the game. If you know of someone cheating, please report them including their tank name, the approximate time (including timezone), and a description of how they were cheating.

Note that there are no known hacks for TankPit, so don't be too quick to assume someone is cheating. If another player is simply moving faster than you, lag is usually to blame. A hack called speedhack used to be a major issue with the game before TankPit came around, but TankPit has fixed this and all other old hacks.

Your ping is the time it takes for a command to travel from your computer to the TankPit server and back. You can check your ping in game by pressing the ping hotkey (F6 by default). A great ping is under 100ms while a poor ping is over 300ms. Players with lower pings will have a slight advantage in the game, especially in large battles, but it is generally insignificant.

Your ping depends on your physical distance from TankPit's server and how internet routing occurs from your PC to us. There is not much that you can do to improve it.

Miscellaneous

One way to support TankPit is by paying for a tank name or color change. You can also donate to us directly. Thanks for your support!
